英語簡歷并無固定不變的單一形式，應(yīng)聘者完全可以根據(jù)個人的具體情況來確定采用何種形式，靈活設(shè)計。一般來說，根據(jù)個人經(jīng)歷的不同側(cè)重點，可以選用以下三種形式：
(1)以學(xué)歷為主的簡歷 basic resume 這種形式適應(yīng)于應(yīng)屆畢業(yè)生或中學(xué)畢業(yè)后仍在待業(yè)的求職人員，因為沒有工作經(jīng)歷，所以把重點放在學(xué)業(yè)上，從最高學(xué)歷往下寫。
在basic resume中，一般包括下列元素：
a. personal date(個人資料)：name(姓名)、address(通訊地址)、postal code(郵政編碼)、phone number(電話號碼)、birthdate(出生日期)、birthplace(出生地點)、sex(性別)、height(身高)、weight(體重)、health(健康狀況)、date of availability(可到職日期)、number of identification card(身份證號碼)。因為是應(yīng)屆畢業(yè)生或中學(xué)畢業(yè)不久，一般沒有結(jié)婚，因而可省略marital status(婚姻狀況)和children(兒女情況)兩項。當(dāng)然，如果是研究生畢業(yè)已婚，則應(yīng)寫明。
b. job/career objective(應(yīng)聘職位)。
c. education(學(xué)歷)：就讀學(xué)校及系科的名稱、學(xué)位、始止時間和應(yīng)聘職位相關(guān)的課程與成績、社會實踐、課外活動、獎勵等都應(yīng)一一列出。
d. special skill(特別技能)。
e. hobbies/interests(業(yè)余愛好)。如果在學(xué)歷項目的課外活動中已經(jīng)注明，此項則不必重復(fù)。
(2)以經(jīng)歷為主的簡歷 chronological resume
以這種形式出現(xiàn)的英語簡歷，往往側(cè)重于工作經(jīng)歷，把同應(yīng)聘職位有關(guān)的經(jīng)歷和業(yè)績按時間順序書寫出來，把工作經(jīng)歷放在學(xué)歷之前。經(jīng)歷和學(xué)歷的時間順序均是由近至遠(yuǎn)。
毫無疑問，這種形式的英語簡歷適合于有工作經(jīng)驗的求職人員。
在chronological resume中，通常包括以下元素：
a. personal date(個人資料)。具體內(nèi)容同以學(xué)歷為主的簡歷相同，不過，因為你參加工作多年，已進(jìn)入結(jié)婚年齡，所以不管你是否結(jié)婚，都應(yīng)注明婚姻狀況和兒女情況。
b. job/career objective(應(yīng)聘職位)。
c. work experience(工作經(jīng)歷)。務(wù)必寫明自己在每個工作單位的職位、職責(zé)和業(yè)績以及工作起止時間。
d. education(學(xué)歷)：因為你已工作多年，雇主重點考慮你的工作經(jīng)驗是否能勝任你所應(yīng)聘的職位，所以學(xué)歷只是一個參考的因素，因而不必象以學(xué)歷為主的簡歷那樣寫得詳細(xì)，只需注明你就讀的校系名稱、始止時間和學(xué)位即可。
e. technical qualifications and special skills(技術(shù)資格和特別技能)。
f. scientific research achievements(科研成果)。
(3)以職能為主的簡歷 functional resume
這種形式的英語簡歷，也是突出工作經(jīng)歷，因而所含元素和以經(jīng)歷為主的簡歷相同。以經(jīng)歷為主的`簡歷和以職能為主的簡歷的根本差別在于：以經(jīng)歷為主的簡歷是按時間順序來排列工作經(jīng)歷，而以職能為主的簡歷則按工作職能或性質(zhì)來概括工作經(jīng)歷，并無時間上的連貫性，旨在強調(diào)某些特定的工作能力和適應(yīng)程度。比方說，你曾經(jīng)在兩個不同的工作單位擔(dān)任相同的職務(wù)或負(fù)責(zé)相同的業(yè)務(wù)，便可歸納在一個項目之中。
