A Comparative Study on the Women Characters in Jane Austen’s
Pride and Prejudice
Abstract
Pride and Prejudice is an enduringly popular novel published in 1813 by the English writer Jane Austen (1775-1817), one of the most important novelists of the nineteenth century. It represents various kind of women characters, such as the anti-feudalism woman character Elizabeth Bennet and the traditional women characters Bennet sisters and Charlotte Lucas, who are satisfied with their traditional fate, thus to reveal that the sources of the development of the women characters. Women have low social status in the patriarchy, and they met a series of material problem: inequalities in the education, lack of privacy, the burdens of child-bearing and rearing, domestic obligations. Through comparing the women characters in Pride and Prejudice and logically represents the feminism in this novel, we can understand the sources of the development of feminism and the important significance of feminism towards women literature and society life.

摘 要
《傲慢與偏見》是19世紀(jì)英國著名小說家簡．奧斯汀1部經(jīng)久不衰的作品。在這部小說中，《傲慢與偏見》展示了各種各樣的女性形象，如反封建女主人公伊利莎白以及滿足于傳統(tǒng)命運(yùn)的女性形象班納特姐妹們和卡洛特．盧卡斯，通過分析來深入表現(xiàn)女性發(fā)展的根源。這種根源在于在父權(quán)制社會里，女性地位低下，而且女性長期遭遇1系列的困難和不公，如受教育的不平等，缺乏隱私權(quán)，養(yǎng)兒育女，承擔(dān)無休止的家庭義務(wù)等。本文從對簡．奧斯汀在《傲慢與偏見》中所塑造的女性形象對比分析出發(fā)，系統(tǒng)展開論述這部小說的女性意識，從而凸現(xiàn)奧斯汀及其女性意識的發(fā)展的根源，以及女性主義對于文學(xué)和社會人生的重要意義。
