Immobilised cells have also been used in the colour reduction of solutions containing metal-complex azo dyes. Graft copolymerisation to modified cellulose was found to be practicable as an immobilisation substrate for the bacterial cells. The decoloration of the reactive dye solutions using the immobilised cells was successful. The free cells were found to be effective in the colour reduction of the selected metal-complex azo dyes.
